give

"If you have two coats," he replied, "give one to the poor. If you have extra food, give it away to those who are hungry."

Luke 3:11

Over and over, we are asked to help those in need. Give. Feed the hungry. Take care of the widows, orphans, aliens--anyone among us in need.

Be kind.

Treat others as you would like to be treated.

And now, there is research to support this idea. Giving to others is good for us.

What will it take for us to get this through our thick skulls?

I just hope we can get it before it is too late.

I think we know it on some deep level, but the messages we receive daily from the media and those who are concerned with the economy are constantly barraging us with "get" instead of "give." When we take a moment to be still and not take in other messages, the deeper, more authentic message to give rings out clearly. I'll sit and hope that more people find time to listen to those more subtle messages more often.

This is the second time in two weeks I've seen a piece discussing what Darwin really meant about all that survival of the fittest stuff. Turns out, the Greedy Guses decided to extrapolate something Darwin himself never intended when they used the theory as a means to justify Cruelty through Capitalism.

Unfortunately, no one has figured out how to combine greed and kindness. Wouldn't it be a different world if the president went to India to sell kindness instead of arms? But then, what price kindness?

This is lovely. Thank you. Will end up in one of my Good News Friday posts.
