act wisely

Prayer is not an old woman's idle amusement. Properly understood and applied, it is the most potent instrument of action.

Mohandas Gandhi

How many times have I said, "All I can do is pray," feeling as though I am doing next to nothing. Feeling I am not doing enough.

Truth is, nothing better can be done in some moments. And in some moments, prayer is all I can do--all anyone needs me to do.

Of course, other times call for other actions, too. In those instances, prayer is a special condiment.

All true. I'm continuously amazed at the potency of prayer. And presence. I'll never forget the time my daughter was injured in a car accident. Family and friends appeared at the hospital, sitting, chatting quietly, waiting during the surgery. I could feel the strength of their presence.

Later, recovering from the anesthesia, my daughter said she felt them, all through the surgery. She had no way of knowing they were there, having been rolled away before they arrived, yet she felt their presence and their love. It was a great comfort to her.

I probably have a broader definition of prayer than most. I consider that type of presence also to be prayer. Powerful--praying her through the surgery, holding her in love.

I like the thought of prayer as condiment. :-)

Actually I think that any time we act in the flow of the Beloved, that's prayer.

Amen, Deb.
Beautiful photo, Wanda.

Wanda, like you, I hold a broad definition of prayer, perhaps because I don't think of The Beloved (love that term) as separate, at least not separate in all ways, more like what Deb said, "Any time we act in the flow of the Beloved, that's prayer."

Thank you both.
