vocation

I never had any doubt that I was going to spend my life in music. We used to come down in his rickety car any time we could beg, borrow, or steal enough money for gas. We'd clean up in service stations. I'd wash my hair in those old, cold sinks and put my makeup on in the mirrors in the car. Through it all, there wasn't ever a time I thought I wasn't going to make it.

Dolly Parton

And that, my friends, is what it takes to become an overnight sensation!

Luck had nothing to do with it!

She is a go-getter...and generous...and loving...and funny...and delightful!

My favorite Dolly quote: "It costs a lot to look this cheap!" But there is nothing cheap about her!

I remember staying up late to watch Dolly on the Porter Waggoner show (Do I have his name right?), singing duets with him in front of that wagon wheel. He was--boring. She was fantastic. Would anyone even recognize that guy if they saw him today? But Dolly. We know her.
