what if it weren't politics as usual?

Do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.

Zechariah 7:10

Is it just me or does this seem to be relevant today?

Every day. It's just that some days call for it to be shouted from the rooftops.

Oh yes, thank you. And if it weren't politics as usual? If it were politics from the heart, from a place of loving compassion, there would be no greed-motivated decisions. Profit would not matter. Our leaders would be incapable of imagining anything but assuring that systems ran efficiently to provide health care, for just one example, to suit each individual's needs.

If it weren't politics as usual, why, we would be building more and better schools instead of prisons. We would be hiring and training ever better teachers, rather than punishing the entire system for the few we think don't measure up. We would hire ever more teachers because we would need fewer and fewer prison guards, whose salaries, mind you--under politics as usual--are never called into question.

We might even choose to fund and encourage clean energy sources, rather than continuing to suck the Earth's blood until she is ready to blast us all of the planet.
