gandhi

I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary--the evil it does is permanent.

This week, my local NPR station has carried a series of stories on the Wikileak of Afghanistan war papers. As I've listened, I've seen again the futility of this war, like the one in Iraq, like the Vietnam war so many years ago. I am convinced the only reasons we go to war is to line the pockets of those who profit most from war and the machinery of war, and secondarily, to keep a cadre of men and women trained to kill. If you don't mind, I am going to post this quote permanently on my blog as a reminder to me that I must never stop working for peace. It is perhaps the most important thing I will ever do.
