I began to understand this the first of only two times in my life I sported a bumper sticker on my car. It was a political sticker, and I knew I represented everyone involved in the campaign, so I had better drive in a way that did not give people cause to wag their hand at me in a particular gesture. For sure, I had better not return the gesture!
That lesson never left me, though at times my Irish temper flares and I behave, erm, less peacefully than I would like.
