choose faith

To choose what is difficult all one’s days, as if it were easy, that is faith.

W.H. Auden

from

Faith is not always difficult. Some days it rolls off the edge of my mind just like breathing. Other days...not so much.

You see, I don't really like surprises and faith is all about not knowing--not seeing.

Another stretch. Another challenge. I guess it separates the sheep and the goats.

There's a saying that keeps crossing my path these days: Faith makes things possible, not easy. For me it's in the same family as acceptance, surrender, vulnerability. That letting go that's so hard for some (all?) of us.

Interesting. The goat is on a tether. Not much choosing in its life. Yet, if you lay aside the idea of "freedom," the goat appears to be in near-heaven.

I've been reading all morning about choices. Your image, quote and commentary, added to the rest, give me much to chew on. Aaack! Didn't intend the pun, but I'll let it stand.

now, which is which among sheep and goats, as regards this saying? I've never known.

as for me, I'm not good at faith, never have been.

I'd rather find a way to learn, or do as seems best based on my heart and the evidence.

I wonder if, for some of us, faith and trust are the same?

Hmmm... that is an interesting quote. If I chose what is difficult, it was before I incarnated. But I can choose faith now that I'm "here."
