No offense intended to my moderate Republican friends and family. However, I do think she makes a point about talking out of both sides of one's mouth.
We all do it.
I hope I am getting better at seeing the beam in my own eye and not just the mote in others'. Even though some days, I can't find the back of my hand in the dark without a flashlight, I keep examining the shadow. Sometimes I can even make some sense out of it and admit to recognizing what I find as mine.
Really, people...what would really happen if we took our beliefs, put them into practice in our minds, and worked them through to a logical conclusion. Not just what we want to see happen, but what would likely happen--in this day and age...here and now.
Pro-life and pro-war? Anti-abortion and pro death penalty? Every one for himself and no compassion?
How's that working so far? Feel free to share your thoughts.
(Boy, I sure have more questions than answers today.)
And...I happen to think that Margaret and Helen are really funny most of the time. (I know not everyone will agree.)

Which makes me think of what I was going to post...
If we all lived who we are in each moment wouldn't that be a great thing?
If we could be our authentic, true, reason-we-came-into-this-world selves wouldn't that make life so much easier?
If I viewed each moment as an opportunity to declare who I am to the world, wouldn't that inform my actions and my decisions and make it all make so much more sense?
Sorry..it appears that I have no answers today either.
But perhaps that's the point. Perhaps our answers are in our questions.
Just before reading your post, which I like to be my last before sleep, I read this. Gives a little perspective on where the people you describe are coming from. What can we expect from people who are taught that making eye contact will queer their short-term profits? So one notion I try to run to the end is, how would we all manage if there were no money, no currency of any kind?
On the question of killing,Holly Near used to sing a song that went something like this:
"Why do we kill people, who are killing people, to show that killing people is wrong? Such a foolish notion."
It's when we run out of questions we'll all be in trouble.
