lettuce

(lettuce in our garden)

I think an economy should be based on thrift, on taking care of things, not on theft, usury, seduction, waste, and ruin.

~ Wendell Berry ~

from his poem "Some Further Words"

And lettuce. It should be based on lettuce.

The simplest things give so much pleasure. Yes to an economy of thrift and care. Yes to lettuce. And as a wee child, it wasn't uncommon for me to snicker when the preacher said, "Lettuce pray." All right, I admit, I'm kidding. I knew what he meant, but I liked to play with words even then, and did snicker when I twisted it that way.
